Reza Niik (Toronto)
Architect, Experimentalist, Artist, Lecturer @ UofT Daniels Faculty of Architecture

Who are you and what do you do?

I’m Reza Nik and I like to refer to myself as an ‘experimentalist’. I am trained as an architect and practice as one. Comfort makes me uncomfortable, so I am constantly throwing myself into many disciplines including art installations, short films, sculptures, murals, concept designs and illustrations - all executed with an experimental mindset.

What hardware do you use?

I use my iPhone a lot (sketching, making lists, photos, and making short films and recording sounds/noise). But I use a Microsoft surface book for all other things - 3D modelling, rendering, image editing, sketching etc.)

What software do you use?

Rhino 3D, V-ray, Revit, Adobe Photoshop / illustrator / Premier Pro / InDesign, AutoCAD sometimes and Bamboo Paper for sketching

What would be your dream setup?

I like my setup at home now for the digital side of things but I want a ‘dirty’ studio space for sculptures and more making of physical objects and furniture. I’d like to purchase a laser cutter eventually and a 3D printer to have in house to be able to prototype quickly.
